Highland Lifelong Learning offers new courses in April and May
FREEPORT – Highland Community College Lifelong Learning April and May classes include Nail Art, Floral Painting on Wood Slice, Basic Birding, Disc Golf, and Civilian Conservation Corps. Nail Art
Location: Highland Community College, 2998 W. Pearl City Road, Building T, Room 133, Freeport, Ill.

Class: Apr. 23; 5-6:30 p.m.
Fee: $10

Learn the tools, supplies, and basic hand and nail care tips to create beautiful nail art designs. You don’t have to wait for a special occasion! Beautiful nails, using basic techniques such as dots and stripes, are easier to achieve than you think!
Floral Painting on Wood Slice
Location: Route No. 73 Brew and Chew, 201 S. Main Street, Pearl City, Ill.

Instructor: Catherine Urban
Join Catherine from The Urban Art Studio to paint a floral design on a wood slice! Your admission includes one 9” round wood slice with a pre-drawn floral design, all painting materials, and step by step instruction. This is beginner friendly, with options for experienced painters.
Basic Birding
Location: Highland Community College, 2998 W. Pearl City Road, Building N, Room 122, Freeport, Ill.

Class: Apr. 26; 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.

Instructor: Juliet Moderow
Learn about common birds that reside in or migrate through northwest Illinois through photographs and bird specimens. Handouts will be provided, but you should bring your own field guide if you have one. We will take a short walk on campus to find and identify birds that might be present. Bring your own binoculars if you have them or we will provide binoculars to borrow during the class. Class will be held rain or shine.
Disc Golf
Location: Generations Brewing Company 1400 S. Adams Avenue, Freeport, Ill.

Class: Apr. 27; 1-3 p.m.
Fee: $25
Instructor: Steven Winter
Disc Golf is played much like golf, except instead of a ball and clubs, players use a flying disc. In this course you will learn everything you need to know to get started, including rules and terminology, what discs to use when, and how to throw discs far and accurately. All equipment provided, or feel free to bring your own.
Civilian Conservation Corps
Location: White Pines Lodge 6712 W. Pines Road, Mt. Morris, Ill.
Registration Deadline: Apr. 23
Class: Apr. 30; 1-2:30 p.m.
Fee: $19
Instructor: Mark Peterson
Learn more about the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), the most popular New Deal program, which led to greater public awareness and appreciation of the outdoors and the nation’s natural resources. Enrollees of the CCC planted nearly 3 billion trees, constructed trails and lodges (including the lodge at White Pines), in more than 800 parks nationwide. Optional guided tour of cabins after class is included.
