[Freeport, Ill.] — Highland Community College honors Delbert Scheider, one of the founding members of the College and a longtime advocate for agriculture and education, by naming the former Wind Turbine Technology Training Center (Building E) on campus the Delbert Scheider Agriculture Center.
This recognition celebrates the Scheider and Scholl families’ lasting contributions to the College, the agricultural community, and the generations of students who have benefited from Delbert’s leadership and vision.
According to President Chris Kuberski, “As a founding trustee, Delbert not only had a vision, he had the ability to articulate it, promote it, and convince others to believe in it. The College is grateful to his children for helping to keep that vision in the forefront.”
The naming of the agriculture building on campus in his honor reflects Delbert’s enduring contribution to education and agriculture, as well as his foresight, leadership, and dedication that helped shape the College. Through his commitment to agricultural innovation, expanding access to higher education, and efforts to promote economic growth, Delbert has positively impacted the lives of countless individuals throughout northwest Illinois.
Dan Dick, Executive Director of the Highland Community Foundation, said, “Delbert was a visionary leader whose impact reached far beyond agriculture. While it is deeply meaningful that this space will carry his name in recognition of his family’s generosity, his legacy is also woven into the larger story of Highland. He and the other founding trustees understood what this college could mean for our region, and it is our honor to carry that vision forward through the students we serve today and for generations to come.”
The dedication took place on June 22, and was attended by Highland Community College President Chris Kuberski, incoming President Dr. Jamal Scott, members of the Highland Board of Trustees, Foundation board members, faculty and staff, local community leaders, and members of the Delbert Scheider family.
