November and December Lifelong Learning schedule includes in-person and online classes

Highland Community College Lifelong Learning November and December courses include Introduction to Basics of Bridge, Painting and Embellishing Furniture, Herbal and Food Supplements: What You Need to Know, and Introduction to Oxy-Acetylene Welding at HCC and online. Some courses are held in person, while everyone practices social distancing. Masks are required. Others have the option to attend through Zoom™. Painting and Embellishing Furniture

Location: Highland Community College, (Building T), room T-122, 2998 W. Pearl City Rd., Freeport, Ill.

Class: Nov. 5 and 12; 6 — 8 p.m.

Instructor: Cindy Bielefeldt

This is a master class of techniques and best practices for changing the look and feel of a piece of furniture. Attendees gain hands-on experience using chalk and milk paint, transfers, colored waxes, gilding, and molded embellishments. Bring small, easy-to-transport furniture (a small table, chest, stool, etc.) to try all the techniques. Instruction sheet and supplies will be furnished.

Herbal and Food Supplements: What You Need to Know

Location: Highland Community College, (Building H), room H-127, 2998 W. Pearl City Rd., Freeport, Ill.

The amount of known information on dietary supplements varies widely. What are herbal or dietary supplements? How are they regulated? How can you determine the accuracy of claims, risks, or side effects? Learn to make good, safe decisions when using supplements.

Introduction to Oxy-Acetylene Welding

Welding is a popular hobby and an in-demand career. Learn about oxy-acetylene welding and see if you would like to learn more in a for-credit class. This is a hands-on class. Dress to work in a shop including long sleeves, long pants, closed-toe shoes, and no loose clothing.

Christmas Gnome Ornament
