Summerset Celebrates 50 Years with ‘Cinderella’ June 20-29

Don’t miss your chance to experience the magic of the ball — and celebrate 50 years of Summerset Theatre tradition at Highland Community College.

FREEPORT, IL – Highland Community College is celebrating its golden anniversary of Summerset Theatre with a magical production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella.

This beloved, reimagined fairytale will sweep audiences off their feet with its unforgettable music, dazzling costumes, and enchanting storytelling — a perfect celebration of 50 years of amazing live theatre.

“Summerset Theatre has been a cornerstone of cultural life at Highland for five decades,” said Dr. Randy Haldeman, Cinderella’s director. “This 50th season is a tribute to our vibrant community, our talented performers and crew, and the generations of families who have supported us. We can’t wait to share this unforgettable show with you.”

This production, reimagined for Broadway in 2013, promises to delight dreamers of all ages with humor and hope. Whether you’re revisiting this classic tale or discovering it for the first time, Cinderella is sure to leave a lasting impression with its timeless message that dreams really can come true.

Cinderella’s cast includes 37 talented performers, including nine principal roles. Cinderella (Ella): Erin Schrader (Lena, IL); Prince Topher: Ben Skipor (Pecatonica, IL); Madame, stepmother: Kirsten Erdmier (Durand, IL); Charlotte, stepsister: Geffie Garat (Freeport, IL); Gabrielle, stepsister: Nevaeh Gross (Lena, IL); Marie, fairy godmother: Rachel Leverton (Freeport, IL); Jean-Michel: Rowen Schulz (Lena, IL); Sebastian: Derrik Mueller (Orangeville, IL); and Lord Pinkleton: August Haldeman (Rockford, IL).

Haldeman explained Summerset’s fresh take on this beloved classic reinforces a message that transformation is more than just outward magic.

“Transformation is rooted in belief, resilience, and the pursuit of what is right—values that reflect Summerset’s legacy of artistic excellence and commitment to the Highland community,” he said.

Performances are June 20-21 and 26-28 at 7 p.m., and June 22 and 29 at 3 p.m. on the Fine Arts Theatre stage located in the Ferguson Fine Arts Center, 2998 W. Pearl City, Rd., Freeport, Ill.
