Upward Bound presents ‘A Summer to Remember’

Upward Bound is hosting a Talent Show/Awards Ceremony for students who participated in the summer program from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on July 19 in the Student/Conference Center, room H-201 at Highland Community College, 2998 W. Pearl City Rd, Freeport, Ill.

Each student will present a group project, and awards will be given. The Upward Bound AIM Awards is about celebrating the summer finale and showcasing how the program helps Freeport High School students invest in their future through the TRIO program that is funded by the Department of Education.

Upward Bound helps students overcome class, social, academic, and cultural barriers to higher education. Created in 1965, the program now serves approximately 53,000 students in 722 Upward Bound Projects nationwide.

Sarah Lief, Upward Bound Coordinator at Highland Community College, said, “The students are excited, and each student has put in a lot of time and effort during the six weeks of their summer and we found a way to celebrate it.”

The ceremony is open to the community and families of students involved with the Upward Bound program. Please dress in business casual attire. Light refreshments will be served.
