FREEPORT — The Highland Community College Concert Band and Orchestra will hold their joint Concert and Winter Recital at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 2, in the Fine Arts Theatre in the Ferguson Fine Arts Center, 2998 W. Pearl City Rd., Freeport, Ill. The event, previously scheduled for Feb. 23, was rescheduled due to weather disruptions to practices.
Scott Stich will direct the concert band, with the orchestra conducted by Brandon Lamm. Stich explained how Highland’s musicians will offer audiences smaller ensembles and arrangements for this particular recital.
“Some pieces are written or arranged for small groups. Some were written centuries ago for other uses and have been transcribed for modern ensembles,” said Stich.
Selections will range from Mozart, Borodin and Joplin to Hounsall and modern composers. The event will feature string quartets, a violin/harp duet, woodwind choir, brass choirs, flute choir, clarinet choir, saxophone ensemble and a percussion quartet.
“This year, there is even a student woodwind quintet with piano accompaniment as well. We will bring sounds, textures and experiences you can’t experience with our full ensembles. Come and join the fun!” Stich said.
The community is welcome to this free concert. For more on Fine Arts programs at Highland, visit highland.edu.
