HCC’s Transfer Coordinator and advisors are continuously working collaboratively with four-year colleges and universities to help align our courses with their general education and degree-specific courses so that our students’ transfer experience is as smooth as possible.

IAI Makes Credit Transfer Easy
HCC is a participant in the Illinois Articulation Initiative (IAI). This statewide agreement between many Illinois colleges and universities establishes the lower-level general education coursework accepted at all participating schools and is called the Illinois Articulation Initiative General Education Core Curriculum (IAI GECC). Completion of the IAI GECC assures transferring students that lower-level general education requirements for a bachelor’s degree have been satisfied at any participating institution. A transfer institution may require an institution-wide and/or mission-related graduation requirement beyond the scope of the general education core.
If a student transfers with less than the full IAI GECC, the general education requirements of the four-year transfer school may have to be completed, which may be different from the IAI GECC. This agreement is in effect for students entering an associate or baccalaureate degree-granting institution as a first-time freshman in summer 1998 and thereafter.

You can transfer your credits anywhere from HCC. But you have to know which classes to take and make sure you’re taking them in the right order.
A Highland advisor is the friend you need when it comes to scheduling classes, transferring to another College or University and completing your degree on time. Highland has four professional advisors to help you navigate the registration process and put your academic plan into action.
Schedule an appointment after you have taken a placement test, but before you schedule your first full load of classes. If you plan to transfer after graduating from Highland, make sure you have given some consideration to where you will go. This information will help you and your advisor to schedule the right classes.
