Integrity Coaching

This highly interactive course assists managers, supervisors, and leaders in becoming more adept at giving people a sense of purpose and challenging them to reach higher levels of performance. Participants will learn, practice, and implement a simple five-step coaching process that gives others a sense of purpose, challenges them to reach higher levels of performance, and builds confidence and competence in their abilities. Reinforcement follow-up workshops 5:30 to 7 p.m. (seven nights) – in person preferred, conference call-in available. March 8, 15, 22, 29; April 5, 12, 19.

Become more understanding of diversity and multiculturalism by exploring various aspects of different Hispanic cultures. All movies are in Spanish with English subtitles, internationally acclaimed, and have been chosen very carefully for their cultural and historical significance. There will be a brief introduction before the showing and a discussion afterwards. This is the story of Violeta Parra, famed Chilean singer, folklorist and political activist. Sundance Film Festival winner (2012). Come discuss music, art, and international fame vs. personal contradictions. This CRN number is for students.

Assassination of Garfield
Location: Highland Community College, building H, room H-210

This one-time class looks at the assassination of President Garfield. It first looks at US Culture in 1881, a brief biography of James Garfield, and of Charles Guiteau, who grew up in Freeport, IL. It then covers the details leading up to the morning of July 2, 1881, at the Baltimore and Potomac Railroad Station in Washington, DC. It covers the capture, trial, and execution of Guiteau. It covers the poor medical treatment received by Garfield and his death on September 19, 1881. The current status of the Railroad station and the gravesite of Garfield are also explored. This class will be held at the Stephenson County Senior Resouce Center, Freeport.
Italian Cuisine II

Candlemaking Basics

Learn what materials are needed and the methods to complete making candles. You will make one container candle to take home that begins with fresh white wax. Also included in the class will be ways to recycle container candles and leftover wax. Information and links will be provided in a handout for purchasing candle-making materials and other basic information. Cost of the class includes materials for one container candle.
Introduction to Genealogy

Tapping Into Your Inner Voice

In this introductory course, we will be discussing a few ways of tapping into our inner voice. We will learn how to ground ourselves to be able to hear more of that intuitive voice, how to sense energy, and how to use different tools to expand this inner knowing. Chakras, crystals, essential oils, and how to start to manifest your heart’s desire will be discussed. Time will be allowed for questions, and most of this course will be experiential.

This 3-hour course is an introduction to the basics and some of the finer points of bartending and mixing. Fully hands-on and interactive, students will have the opportunity to practice and prepare real cocktails, drinks, and shooters. While designed for beginners or those with a basic understanding of bartending and alcohol in general, the course will also have tips and pointers for more experienced bartenders.

Even if you took Spanish Cuisine fall 2017, learn new recipes and methods taking the class again. Spain has a very diverse cuisine, which changes dramatically from North to South. The Basque Region, northern Spain, encompasses both Spanish and French cuisines to the southern region of Spain, Andalusia. Dishes featured will be from the Basque region and from the southern region. Please bring containers to take food home in.
Who Haunts Your House

Learn how to trace the history of your house. Who lived in it before you and what were their stories? When were additions added (or subtracted)? Who paid taxes (or not), how much, and for what? Trace the history of the residents and the house itself. And, if your house is haunted, just maybe you’ll learn about the spirits sharing your home.

Sign Painting Workshop with Sunny Hill Craft Company
Location: This Is It Eatery, 16 N. Chicago Ave., Freeport, Ill.

Abby Mielke from Sunny Hill Craft Company will lead this fun, do-it-yourself workshop where you can paint your own wooden sign. You can choose from any design that Sunny Hill Craft Company has created. After you have registered for the class, visit Sunny Hill Craft Company’s Facebook page and look in the Signs photo folder for ideas. Send an email to sunnyhillcraftco@gmail.com at least two weeks before the class begins with your sign choice so she can get it ready for you to paint and stencil. As you know, no two pieces of wood are alike. Grains, texture, and coloring are different on every sign. Sizes vary based on design. Average sign size on a single board sign is 12″x18″. Please arrive 10 minutes prior to the start time so we can begin on time.
