HCC Adult Education Program Seeks Volunteer Tutors

Highland Community College Adult Education program is seeking volunteers to tutor adults in the district. Volunteers tutor math, reading, writing or English as a Second Language. All interested individuals are encouraged to attend one of the following tutor informational meetings in a main floor meeting room at the Freeport Public Library, 100 E. Douglas Street, Freeport, Ill.

  • Tuesday, September 17, 6 to 7 p.m.
  • Thursday, September 19, 10 to 11 a.m.
  • Wednesday, September 25, 2 to 3 p.m.

The informational meetings will address volunteer duties, time commitment, and experience.

The support and encouragement that tutors provide is a key influence in the lives of students. Just by volunteering an hour or two a week, tutors are a source of inspiration.

This program is rewarding for the volunteers as well. Volunteer tutors help their communities by improving the lives of residents, one person at a time. Volunteers tutor work when it is convenient – morning, afternoon or evening and in an academic subject area they enjoy.

For more information about these meetings, please contact Esther Mayer at 815-599-3538 or at esther.mayer@highland.edu.

This project was made possible by the Illinois State Library (ILS) grant, a division of the Office of Secretary of State, using state funds designated for literacy. The Highland Community College Adult Education program is an equal opportunity educator and employer.
