The Pitman Painters

The Pitmen Painters is a play by Lee Hall based on the true story of the Ashington Group, a group of coal miners in 1930s England who became celebrated artists after taking an art appreciation class. The play explores themes of class, art, and identity as the miners discovertheir talent, gain fame, and grapple with the conflict between their working-class lives and their new artistic success, all while continuingto work in the mines.
