HCC Chamber Singers and Orchestra present ‘Schubert: Mass in G’s

The Highland Chamber Singers & Chamber Orchestra, led by director Randy Haldeman, are thrilled to present a special concert, “Schubert: Mass in G” Friday, April 19 at 7 p.m. at the Fine Arts Theatre in the Ferguson Fine Arts Center, 2998 W Pearl City Rd., Freeport, Ill.

The concert features a rich tapestry of musical works from the Classical and Romantic periods and contemporary compositions. The evening will highlight Schubert’s ethereal “Mass in G Major,” alongside mesmerizing pieces by Nancy Telfer, Fanny Mendelssohn-Hensel, Esther Scliar, and Susan Brumfield. This eclectic program promises to transport audiences through a journey of musical eras, showcasing the versatility and depth of the chamber singers and soloists, including soprano Britney Kieselhorst, baritone Joel Ross, and tenor Christopher Jackson, with Grace Cifonie on piano.

Conductor Randy Haldeman expressed his excitement for the concert, stating, “We are honored to bring such a diverse and emotionally compelling program to our audience. Each piece, from Telfer’s evocative ‘The Wind and the Flower’ to Schubert’s profound Mass in G, offers a unique window into the soul of its composer. Our singers and musicians have delved deeply into the essence of these works, aiming to create a truly immersive and moving experience for everyone who joins us.”

The concert will celebrate musical storytelling, with each note and lyric thoughtfully curated to evoke the rich histories and emotions embedded in these timeless compositions.
