HCC’s Clarence Mitchell Library presents a workshop with Rockford’s poet laureate

Highland Community College’s Clarence Mitchell Library is pleased to share a program for National Poetry Month. Guest artist Jenna Goldsmith, Rockford’s poet laureate, will lead a poetry workshop, “OULIPO! Poetry with Rules,” at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, in the Clarence Mitchell Library at Highland, 2998 W. Pearl City Rd., Freeport, Ill.

Dr. Goldsmith is a poet and writer living in northern Illinois. She is a Lecturer in English at Rockford University and an Instructor of Writing at Oregon State University’s Ecampus. Her 2022 chapbook CRUSH won the Baltic Writing Residency Chapbook Contest. In January 2023, she was sworn in as the City of Rockford’s second Poet Laureate.

What is Oulipo? What is an Oulipian? Find out at this workshop featuring hands-on practice with the Oulipo method, and free your creativity by following some rules. Goldsmith will be available to sign her books after the workshop.

All are welcome at this free community workshop. If you have any questions about the event, contact Laura Watson at 815-599-3456 or laura.watson@highland.edu.
