Testing Center

Highland Community College’s Testing Center, located in Building H(H124) next to the Book Store, provides comprehensive, accessible testing and assessment services in a distraction-free environment.

The center is committed to maintaining the highest compliance with nationally-recognized testing standards and practices, safeguarding the confidentiality of student records, and creating an optimal testing environment.

Please make sure to call well in advance of your testing window to ensure you secure a testing time. Photo ID is required for testing. Space is limited for each testing session; times are by appointment only.

Testing Center Guidelines, Fees, Resources, etc.

Check-In Process

  1. Show photo ID
  2. Store everything in locker
  3. Security checks
  4. Test directions
  5. Quietly enter testing room

    *PearsonVue, CLEP, and DSST tests have different check-in processes

Check-In Procedures

  1. Check student ID (make sure name matches appt, picture
    looks like student, etc)
  2. Ask student to lock all items in a locker (electronics, drinks,
    bags, etc)
  3. Begin security checks:
    a. Have students turn out pockets
    b. Have student roll up sleeves and pant legs (if
    applicable)
    c. Have student pull up hood on hoodie to show back (if
    they cannot remove hoodie reasonably)
    d. Visually check ears for headphones (if a student has
    long hair, ask them to pull it back to show you their ears)
    e. Visually check glasses (ensure they are not smart
    glasses)
  4. Explain test directions to student
  5. Have student quietly enter the testing center
  6. If student comes out of testing center and needs to reenter, check photo ID and go through security checks again

Testing Center Rules

The following items are prohibited from the testing center:
– Hats, sunglasses, and coats
– Backpacks, handbags, and briefcases
– Cell phones, smart watches, headphones, tablets, and other electronic devices
– Any type of smart glasses
– Notebooks and any other writing materials
– Food and drinks

▶ Photo identification is required for all testing.

▶ Security checks must be completed during the check-in process.

▶ Children are not allowed into the testing center.

▶ Standing outside the testing room to talk to other students entering and exiting the area is prohibited.

▶ All scratch paper must be turned in at the end of the exam.

▶ Exams will not be given before or after their specified date without verbal or written permission from the instructor.

▶ Once an exam has been issued, students will not be allowed to leave and return to the testing room for any reason.

▶ Exams must be completed 15 minutes before the official closure of the Testing Center.

▶ If a student violates the directions established by an instructor, or the guidelines of the TC, the monitor has the right to collect the exam early.
