Northwest Illinois Rock Club to host Jewelry, Gem, Fossil & Mineral Show

There will be a Jewelry, Gem, Fossil & Mineral Show held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 12 at the Student Conference Center on the Highland campus.

There will be demonstrations, speakers, dealers, displays and children’s activities. This is also a great time to get a start on holiday shopping.

Sponsored by the Northwest Illinois Rock Club, the speaker schedule is as follows:

Saturday, Nov 11.

10:30 a.m.:  Volcanoes and the Landscapes They Produce: on the trail of Vulcan

–  David Rice, Rock River Valley Gem and Mineral Society, Rockford, IL

1:30 p.m.:  Uncovering the lost world of Cretaceous Dinosaurs in the Hell Creek Formation of Eastern Montana plus How you can participate in a dinosaur dig!

–  Josh Mathews, Burpee Museum Director of Paleontology and NIU Ph.D. candidate

3:30 p.m:  Groovin’ on Kelleys Island: The World’s Most Spectacular Glacial Striations

–  Jordan Marche, Astronomer, science historian, independent scholar, and adjunct instructor, University of Wisconsin, Madison

Sunday, Nov. 12

11:00 a.m.:  Gemstone Energies:  Myth, Legend, or Science?

–  Pam Jensen, Goldsmith, Jeweler, and owner of Gemorifics in Freeport, IL

2:00 p.m.: Late Ordovician Fossils from the State-line (Illinois and Wisconsin) area: relics of the Lost World beneath our homes.

–  Michael Henderson, Northern Illinois University, De Kalb, IL
