[Freeport, Ill.] — Nearly 200 people gathered at Highland Community College (HCC) for the Highland Soirée, celebrating Virginia Ames, welcoming President Jamal Scott, and enjoying an evening together in support of HCC and its students.
The event raised significant support for the HOPE Emergency Fund — Helping Overcome Personal Emergencies, which provides assistance to Highland students facing unexpected financial challenges. More than $10,000 was raised through the silent auction alone.
President Scott shared why he is excited to be at HCC and offered guests a preview of his vision for the College and its future.
“It was wonderful sharing the evening with such incredible supporters of Highland Community College,” said Dr. Jamal Scott, President of HCC. “The impact that this college has had on the community is well documented, and it is generational in nature. We’re excited about the future for Highland Community College, as we begin the development of a new strategic plan focused on improving the lives of our taxpayers and stakeholders, in the various counties and communities of northwest Illinois.”
Guests also enjoyed live entertainment from Cole & Company, helping create the relaxed, celebratory atmosphere of the evening.
“The Soirée is really about people. It was a wonderful evening that brought together friends of Highland, community members, alumni, employees, and supporters around a shared commitment to our students,” said Dan Dick, Executive Director of the Highland Community College Foundation. “It was especially meaningful to celebrate Virginia Ames and recognize the remarkable example she has set through a lifetime of generosity, service, and commitment to Highland and its students. Virginia represents the kind of lasting relationship that makes Highland such a special place. We’re incredibly grateful for everyone who joined us and helped make the evening such a success.”
Several corporate partners also showed their support, helping make the Soirée possible and ensuring that the evening would have an even greater impact for HCC students.
