HCC’s Royal Scots present “Vinyl Masters: Hits of the 70s” on May 8

[Freeport, Ill.] — Highland Community College’s Royal Scots will present the 58th Annual Royal Scots Show, Vinyl Masters: Hits of the 70s, on Friday, May 8 at 7 p.m. in the Ferguson Fine Arts Center.

The performance will feature a fast-paced evening of 1970s favorites brought to life through high-energy choreography, tight vocal harmonies, and a full live stage band complete with horns.

Celebrating the tremendous musicianship and artistry of the artists who defined the decade, Vinyl Masters includes music associated with Elton John, Chicago, Fleetwood Mac, Earth, Wind & Fire, Stevie Wonder, and more. The program highlights songs whose themes of love, hope, joy, change, uncertainty, and human connection remain as relevant today as they were fifty years ago.

“Vinyl Masters is a celebration of the extraordinary musicianship and musical artistry of the 1970s,” said Randy Haldeman, director of the Royal Scots. “These songs are beloved not only for their sound and style, but also for the questions they ask and the values they affirm. The themes they celebrate — and the themes they challenge — remain every bit as resonant today as they were fifty years ago.”

Founded in 1967, the Royal Scots are Highland Community College’s premier vocal ensemble, performing music spanning from Renaissance choral works to Broadway hits, jazz standards, gospel, pop, folk, and world music. The ensemble has appeared at Carnegie Hall and Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City, toured extensively throughout the Midwest, and participated in prestigious vocal jazz festivals.
