Highland Community College Student-Athletes Recognized in NJCAA All-Academic Teams of the Year

[Freeport, Ill.] — The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) announced the 2025-26 All-Academic Teams, recognizing student-athletes across the country for their dedication in the classroom. A total of 13,723 student-athletes have been honored, including 24 students from Highland Community College (HCC).

Student-athletes are eligible to earn academic honors by achieving an overall GPA of 3.60 or higher for the 2025-26 academic year.

NJCAA All-Academic First Team (4.0 GPA)

  • Garrett Houston: Baseball
  • Cailyn Lane: Volleyball
  • Taryn Mathews: Volleyball
  • Darryl Toney III: Basketball

NJCAA All-Academic Second Team (3.80-3.99 GPA)

  • Izabella Homewood: Volleyball
  • Cameron MacDonald: Baseball, Bowling
  • Addison Ness: Basketball, Volleyball
  • Zachary Newcomer: Golf
  • Hudson Powers: Baseball
  • Fabian Soto: Baseball
  • Mason Villafuerte: Baseball
  • Ivan Wenger: Cross Country

NJCAA All-Academic Third Team (3.60-3.79 GPA)

HCC’s men’s bowling team was also recognized as the NJCAA Men’s Bowling Academic Team of the Year with a 3.42 GPA.
