[Freeport, Ill.] — Highland Community College (HCC) is holding a Field Day event September 17 from 9 a.m. to noon at the new Crop Science Technology Center, 3585 W. Stephenson Street. The event includes demonstration stations and a formal dedication of the Switzer Family Research Farm.
At 9 a.m., the day will kick off with a welcome ceremony and overview of the event. Guests will experience hands-on demonstrations in planting, drone applications, irrigation and crop trials while connecting with industry professionals.
“The goal of our field day is to connect students and guests with agriculture industry professionals highlighting the technology that is being used on the college farm. Within our agriculture department we place an emphasis on the use and benefits of technology applications in agriculture,” said Agriculture Instructor, Justin Ebert. “We hope that participants are able to make the connection of what our students are exposed to in our courses with what is being utilized in the workforce.”
The demonstration stations will include precision planting with Baker Precision Planter Works, Drone Applications with Agri Soar Solutions LLC, water management with Grade Solutions, and research activities with Plot Seed Contributors.
At 11:30 a.m., the Highland Community College Foundation will present a formal dedication of the Switzer Family Research Farm. Register for the event online.
