Career Services Assessments

Choosing the right career path can be an overwhelming task. With so many degree programs and variables such as your personality, your financial needs, and the outlook of career fields, it helps to have some expert advice.

The Career Center utilizes several online resources designed to help individuals make career decisions according to who they are and what they are looking for in a career.

YouScience is a unique assessment by assessing one’s aptitudes (meaning innate qualities) instead of interests. It provides detailed results on careers and education recommendations. While this is a heavy focus on aptitudes, it does do a short interest survey. The assessment is flexible in that it can stop at any time and start-up where it was left off.  Students, alumni, and community members are welcome to take this assessment, and it can be completed remotely. Interested individuals will need to contact Career Services to get started.

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and Strong Interest Inventory both assess the test taker’s personality and interests. They are simple and require only “gut” responses, so there is no need to prepare. The reports generate information helpful in indicating what types of work environments and job responsibilities would best suit the test-taker as a unique individual.

If you are interested in taking either of these assessments, call the Career Center at 815.599.3536 or 815.599.3573 for more information. You must set up a time to take the test at the office or have an access code sent to you. The results are sent to the office and will be explained to you during a one-on-one appointment with the Coordinator of Career Services.
