The animal science pathway provides you opportunities to work directly with animals studying all aspects of livestock and companion animal science. Topics of study include biology, health, nutrition, genetics, reproduction, animal processing, regulations, and facility requirements.
Workplace experience programs are available for you to work alongside industry professionals learning the latest in animal science. This pathway provides you the flexibility to seek employment upon graduation or to transfer to a university to complete a bachelor’s degree.
Career Field
With an AAS Degree you can find employment in animal nutrition sales, livestock management, or animal breeding. If you choose to complete a bachelor’s degree, you should choose a career or species emphasis area. Emphasis areas lead to careers such as pre-veterinary medicine, livestock marketing, meat quality grading, animal welfare and behavior, animal nutrition, or animal genetics.
When pursuing an AAS degree you must complete a workplace experience program before graduating. If planning to transfer, you must meet with an advisor to determine and complete the course requirements for your desired college or university. Requirements vary depending on the institution.
