Music

The associate of arts music program (AA) offers students artistic and educational development in music performance or music education. By utilizing HCC’s state-of-the-art computerized music labs, students discover their artistic potential. This program is designed for the student intending to pursue a baccalaureate degree in music. Students have the opportunity to perform with the popular Royal Scots, Chorale, Jazz Ensemble, and/or Concert Band.

Speech

The speech program (AA) explores the exchange of ideas and messages at the interpersonal, small group, public address, and mass communication levels. HCC recognizes the importance of developing communication skills and educating students in this field. This program is designed for the student intending to pursue a baccalaureate degree. The Highland Forensics team competes locally, and at the regional, state, and national level.

Possible Career Paths

Following completion of a four-year baccalaureate degree in music, the most common job opportunities entered into are elementary teachers, high school teachers, college instructors, musical performers, and choir directors.

Graduates of four-year baccalaureate programs with a speech major typically are employed in marketing and sales, teaching in secondary schools and colleges, radio/television, industrial/management training, public relations, and human resources.

Graduates of four-year baccalaureate programs in theatre are typically employed with educational institutions, community theatres, social agencies, religious organizations, professional theatres, and radio/television.
